What quality control means for natural stone
Natural stone is not a manufactured product with identical units. Colour moves between blocks, marking varies within a slab, and no two tiles are the same. Quality control is therefore not about eliminating variation — it is about keeping variation inside a range the buyer has agreed to, and making sure the things that must be consistent actually are: size, thickness, squareness, finish and edge.
The most useful step a buyer can take is to agree a control sample and a tolerance before production starts. From that point we have something objective to sort and inspect against.

What we check, in order
Material selection
Blocks and slabs assessed for soundness and colour before cutting. Material with structural cracks or heavy deviation is set aside.
Colour sorting
Sorted across the whole order against the agreed control sample, so a container arrives as a usable blend.
Dimension inspection
Length, width and squareness checked against the ordered size and the agreed tolerance.
Thickness inspection
Calibrated thickness checked across the batch so the setting bed stays even on site.
Surface inspection
Finish checked for consistency — an uneven honed or bush-hammered surface reads immediately once installed.
Edge inspection
Edges and profiles checked piece by piece. Coping and nosings get the closest attention because they are the most visible.
Packing inspection
Interleaving, edge protection, crate construction and marking verified before the crate is closed.
Quantity verification
Final count checked against the packing list and the proforma invoice before loading.

Do you issue test certificates?

Can we appoint a third-party inspector?
Yes. Buyers are welcome to appoint an independent inspection company before loading. Tell us at order stage so the inspection can be scheduled into the production programme.
How is colour variation handled?
Natural stone varies between blocks. We agree a colour range against a control sample before production and sort the whole order to that range. An exact match to a previous shipment cannot be guaranteed.
What tolerance applies to dimensions?
Tolerances depend on the product, size and finish. Confirm the tolerance you require with the enquiry and we will tell you whether it is achievable for that material before you order.
What happens if material is damaged in transit?
Send photographs of the crates, the packing and the damaged pieces as soon as the container is opened, together with the crate marks. We will review the case with you and, where the packing is at fault, agree a remedy.
